The Americans played the inaugural season in the ABA at the Teaneck Armory; a facility owned by the National Guard. The team finished the season tied for the final playoff spot and were set to host a play-in game. Unfortunately, a circus had already booked the stadium and the team couldn't find a suitable arena in time. The Americans had to forfeit the play-in game and did not participate in the playoffs.
